GİMAS Makine defies economic conditions: Investments continue at full speed
Despite the economic slowdown, GİMAS Makine continues its investments without interruption and is preparing to launch its new production facility, established with an investment close to €10 million, by the end of this year.
Operating from its 80,000-square-meter facility in the İzmir Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone, GİMAS Makine refuses to succumb to economic challenges and remains committed to growth. With routine annual investments that constantly modernize its production technology, the company is now on track to commission its new plant in Malta by year-end.
As one of the leading companies in its sector, GİMAS differentiates itself through a strong commitment to R&D and innovation under the motto: "Produce what has not yet been produced." General Manager Can Yarangümelioğlu shared insights on recent investments and the company’s 2025 objectives.
“We Continue Exporting to 20 Countries”
Yarangümelioğlu stated that GİMAS has always believed in investment-driven growth and has been expanding steadily since its founding in 1976.
“Our most recent investment was the purchase of new machinery worth €5 million last month. We now operate more than 50 production machines and export to 20 countries. In addition to cement mills, we manufacture products that help reduce carbon emissions, as well as components for wind turbines and hydroelectric power plants. Today, renewable energy products account for 40% of our total production,” he explained.
“The Investment Invitation Came from Malta”
Yarangümelioğlu announced that GİMAS is preparing to activate its new production facility in Malta in 2025:
“Our investment decision in Malta is directly related to the European Union’s incentive policies in the country. The invitation to invest came from Malta itself. After several discussions, we decided to proceed. We have already invested €8 million in this project, launched in 2024, and the total investment will reach €10 million. We aim to begin production at our 10,000-square-meter mass production facility by the end of 2025,” he stated.
“Our Main Client Base in Europe is Germany”
Yarangümelioğlu noted that the company has established a liaison office and storage unit in Germany:
“Germany is our main client base in Europe. Since 30% of our exports go to Germany, we established both a liaison office and a warehouse there to better serve the market,” he said.
“We Are Transitioning to More Efficient Systems”
He also emphasized the importance of increasing capacity and efficiency through investment:
“We continue to update our production technologies by constantly renewing our machinery. Our latest investment in new equipment amounted to €5 million. We are transitioning to systems that require less human labor and offer higher productivity,” he noted.
“Reducing Foreign Dependency Is Everyone’s Responsibility”
Yarangümelioğlu underlined that GİMAS ranks among the top three companies in its sector worldwide and recorded €30 million in exports last year.
“We aim to increase our sales by 30% in 2025, and all our work is aligned with that goal. We place strong emphasis on R&D and innovation. Some of our products are the result of four to five years of continuous development. Every industrial manufacturer in Türkiye must take part in producing intermediate goods. Reducing foreign dependency is, in fact, a shared responsibility,” he concluded.
What is GİMAS?
Founded on February 5, 1976 by Mechanical Engineer Şamil Girgin, GİMAS Girgin Makina İmalat Montaj ve Mühendislik San. Tic. A.Ş. began operations to manufacture steel constructions and pressure vessels. Today, it has evolved into an industrial powerhouse, serving all corners of the globe with a wide range of components and finished products for the machinery, mining, cement, renewable energy, thermal, and nuclear sectors—fulfilling its responsibilities to the country, the region, and its employees.
GİMAS’s first major leap occurred in 1978 with the opening of a 6,000-square-meter production workshop focused on steel structures and pressure vessels for refineries, which still operates today. In the early 1990s, the company began producing parts for gas concrete manufacturers and entered the cement and concrete industries. By 1992, GİMAS had moved to one of the largest manufacturing facilities in the Atatürk Organized Industrial Zone—an 8,000-square-meter plant located on a single parcel—and started establishing international connections and exporting abroad.
Since 2010, the company has consistently ranked among the top three regional exporters in its sector. With 27,000 square meters of indoor and 30,000 square meters of outdoor production space, GİMAS manufactures high value-added machinery for the most remote corners of the world. Founder Şamil Girgin made “achieving what others deem impossible” a core company principle—an ideal that continues today under the leadership of second-generation Chairman Bekir Girgin and third-generation Efficiency Manager Emir Şamil Girgin.
GİMAS supports its steadily increasing exports with a team of experts, deep experience, and a strong quality culture, manufacturing industry-specific parts such as mills, conveyors, crushers, mixers for cement, mining, and coal plants; chassis for nuclear applications; turbine and generator parts for the hydroelectric and wind sectors; and pressure vessels and heat exchangers for refineries. All are custom-made from materials tailored to each project’s requirements using welded and machined manufacturing processes.
